Public Relations | Marketing Communications | Media Training
A veteran San Francisco public relations consultant, Paul von Beroldingen has provided media communications services for a spectrum of industries and businesses of every size, from small family enterprises to international corporations. He has been recognized for expertise in the legal, financial services, hospitality, real estate and health care sectors.
His marketing initiatives positioned the historic San Remo Hotel in San Francisco as a popular option for tourists from around the world. At the same time, von Beroldingen preserved the hotel’s reputation as a valuable local institution when the owners protested controversial laws restricting tourist occupancy in small hotels.
Skilled in strategic planning and crisis management, he achieved balanced news coverage for the hotel during hotly contested legislative hearings and a high-profile property rights lawsuit that lasted 12 years in state and federal courts. The case, San Remo Hotel v. San Francisco, reached the U.S. Supreme Court in 2005.
He has conducted news interview coaching for numerous clients, including executives in the U.S. Western Region office of BNP Paribas, and marketing presentation training for account representatives at Cord Blood Registry, a leader in stem cell cord blood banking. As part of a three-year assignment for the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA), he issued statewide financial planning advisories to business editors and prepared CPA specialists to serve as resources for follow-up interviews in newspapers, radio, TV and online media.
Before his consulting practice, he held management posts on the agency and client sides in the city. As founder and CEO of Bay City Public Relations, his client list included Chevron Chemical, Liquid Air, American Express, United Federal Savings, California Child Health and Disability Prevention Programs and the law firm of Hanson Bridgett Marcus & Vlahos.
While serving as senior marketing communications manager for Crown Zellerbach, a Fortune 500 paper and forest products corporation, he directed campaigns targeted to corporate customers in the catalogue, magazine, newspaper, photocopy and computer printer industries. Von Beroldingen supervised ad agencies and design firms, trained executives to deliver effective marketing presentations, produced multimedia updates during corporate reorganizations, and coordinated promotions for the company’s role as official supplier to the Olympic Games.
Active in professional development organizations, he served two terms as president of the San Francisco Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), a trend-setting chapter in the world’s largest organization for PR professionals. He is a longstanding member of the PRSA National Counselors Academy, and has served on numerous national, regional and local PRSA committees. He is a past chairman of the San Francisco Public Relations Round Table, a discussion group for senior Bay Area PR practitioners.
Von Beroldingen began his media career in radio news at KCBS, following graduate courses in broadcasting at San Francisco State University and an undergraduate degree in speech from the University of California at Berkeley.
